Stop Increasing Your Followers
What you should be doing instead on Medium.
We all want more followers.
We want to share our stories far and wide setting our voices free on the strands of electricity that bring them into the hands of anyone, anywhere in the world.
But you’re doing it wrong… and so did I.
When Medium announced that writers now needed a minimum of 100 followers, I, like many other writers decided the best thing to do was to write an article asking for the age-old ‘follow for follow.’
I wish I never had.
This story still remains one of my most-read articles and I still receive comments and claps on it today.
I quickly soared over the 100 followers mark and for that, I am grateful. I was still able to continue to earn my pennies on Medium.
Yes. I gained followers.
But I didn’t gain an audience.
